About Our Farm

Our sheep are born and raised on 14 acres of pasture eating whatever grasses, weeds and shoots that are available. We have no barns, only run-in sheds, and those are hardly ever used. In winter they are fed excellent 2nd cut hay and only the pregnant ewes get a little grain daily during their term.

All our breeding sheep are polled, although an occasional horned ram lamb will show up. When we purchased our original sheep from Barbara Webb of Jager Farm we looked for lines that carried a strong maternal instinct and these offspring have carried on that same trait.

Lambs are usually born in early April to early May. They are almost always twins. Both ewe lambs and ram lambs are available for sale at the end of August when they are weaned and can be separated from their moms.

We shear our sheep after lambing in May and again in Mid-October. The fall fleeces are very clean from the sheep being out on nice pasture all summer. There is only a minimum amount of skirting required, about the time it takes to shear the next sheep.

We follow FAMACHA worm management and only treat when necessary. We have two lines of Icelandic sheep that have shown an excellent resistance to worms. Some ewes and rams of that line have not been wormed for 3 years now.

We are now certified in the USDA scrapie program.
